DENEB / PRIVACY

Privacy

How Deneb handles website feedback, support messages and data in the development app.

Website notice updated 18 September 2026. App privacy details are a prelaunch draft — not yet effective for an App Store release. The website section below applies now. The app sections describe the current development build and will be finalised before launch.

Controller

Deneb is operated by Denys Bulakh, Poland. Contact support@denebmaritime.com for support and privacy requests.

Website feedback and support

This website has no accounts, payments or advertising pixels. Its search and reading previews run in your browser. Vercel hosts the website and processes technical request information, such as IP address, browser information and timestamps, to deliver and secure it. See Vercel’s privacy notice.

If you use the feedback form, Deneb receives the category, your message, any email address you choose to provide, the submission time, a random request identifier and the version of the privacy notice you agreed to. An email address is only required for a beta request. We use this information to review feedback, resolve issues and, where requested, reply or arrange beta access. It does not subscribe you to marketing. We rely on your consent for this voluntary form submission; you can withdraw it by emailing the address above.

Messages are stored privately in Deneb’s Supabase database in Ireland (EU West). The developer can access them; other visitors cannot. Submission handling also involves Supabase’s function infrastructure. Providers may process technical data outside the EEA; applicable safeguards are described in Supabase’s data processing terms and the providers’ privacy documentation.

To prevent spam, the backend uses a daily changing, keyed hash derived from the submitting IP address, plus short-lived counters. The feedback database does not store your raw IP address. Hosting and function providers may still retain IP addresses in their infrastructure logs. This security processing supports our legitimate interest in keeping the form available and preventing abuse.

Feedback is scheduled for deletion 12 months after submission, with daily cleanup. Abuse counters are removed by daily cleanup after two days. You can request earlier deletion. A random request identifier and message fingerprint help prevent duplicate submissions when a connection drops. Database backup and provider log retention follow the respective provider’s service settings.

If you email support, we receive your address, message and any attachments through Apple’s iCloud Mail service. See Apple’s privacy policy. Correspondence is kept only as long as needed to resolve your request and any related follow-up or legal obligation. Email handling supports our legitimate interest in answering requests. Please do not send passwords, payment details or sensitive personal or vessel information.

Website analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand which pages people visit and improve this website. Vercel processes page-view information, referring sites, approximate location, and browser and device details to provide aggregate statistics. We remove query strings and fragments from page URLs before sending them. Our analytics integration does not send feedback messages, email addresses or search input, and does not record sessions or track form interactions.

Vercel does not use third-party cookies for this service. It uses a temporary identifier derived from the request, with visitor sessions discarded after 24 hours; this does not mean all analytics records are deleted after 24 hours. See Vercel’s analytics privacy documentation for its processing and safeguards.

Data on your device only

No account is needed in the current iPhone app. Bookmarks, recent articles, preferences, layout, learning progress and any optional profile details you enter (name, rank, vessel name, type, length, flag, call sign, MMSI, IMO and IALA region) are stored on your iPhone. These profile details are not sent to Deneb. There is no sign-in or cross-device sync.

App analytics and diagnostics

The app can send pseudonymous usage events and crash reports to PostHog: events such as onboarding completion, article summary opened, bookmark added, study-session activity (counts, item type, correctness and confidence) and purchase started/completed (product identifier). Technical context can include the app and iOS version, device model, language, time zone, screen size, network type, session and a random device identifier.

Session replay and automatic interaction capture are off. Events queue offline and send when connected. Before launch, analytics will either require your opt-in or be removed from the release build. This describes a release requirement, not a consent control already available in the development build.

Purchases

Purchases are handled by Apple. Deneb stores transaction and product identifiers, purchase dates, pass durations and revocation dates on the device to determine access. Deneb never sees your payment details. An optional local pass-expiry reminder can be scheduled with your permission.

Your rights

Under GDPR, as applicable to the processing, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability, object to processing, and withdraw consent where processing relies on it. Withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing. Email support@denebmaritime.com. If you did not provide an email with feedback, include enough information to identify the message without sending unnecessary personal details.

You may also complain to UODO, the Personal Data Protection Office in Poland. See also the European Commission’s explanation of your data rights.

Before the app launches

The app’s retention periods, lawful bases per purpose, active provider list, transfer safeguards and final analytics controls will be confirmed in the release notice. This website notice does not announce an App Store launch.
